Roman Krawczyk, CEO and Chief Engineer for Point 2 Point Communications and nanoFIBER expressed that being the recipient of the ASTOR Award is special to our company. To be selected by a peer of judges as the #1 Platinum Award Winner for our “Best Transit infrastructure Cabling and Management System” is an honor. Mr. Krawczyk states, “we pride ourselves as the brand you trust, and safety is paramount.” Roman further explains, “therefore, much goes into how we engineer products.
We start with an idea that needs to answer the following two questions. Firstly, does our engineering solution have importance to our target clients? This is critical. It is the ability to view any object of engineering from multiple perspectives, to recognize the cultural, ideological, and cognitive frames we bring to understanding a problem and developing a solution. Secondly, is our idea valuable to our audience or end-user and will it change their view of the world? This important question relies on engineering principle of taking something that exists and making it better.
All our production engineering goes through the process of how does our product help with human safety, strategic preservation, and efficiencies? Furthermore, will the product last over time and be future proof? We also believe that sustainable productions strategies must be localized. Simply put… the shortest distant between two points is a straight line. It goes against logic of producing products on one continent and shipping to another is not efficient. Less transportation is better. Proximity strategy which is localized and uses the least amount of energy produces a sustainable solution. Therefore, our engineers bear these principles in mind when developing products and solutions for our clients.”
Future of Transit Systems & Goals
Subway transit systems are in a constant state of evolution. Changes and growth in urban markets dictate route expansions and station upgrades to the adoption of new payment systems, ticketing apps, advertising platforms, rider alerting systems. Be mindful of the last 2 years where added safety protocols of PPE usage and daily clean cars and stations in response to COVID-19. While each change on its own is an improvement, it can be challenging to manage multiple point solutions running on conflicting technologies. It is hard and time-consuming to introduce new innovations when systems are in a state constant flux.
Maximizing the communications network into a multi-use platform over a system-wide transit operations will support streamline modernization. By streamlining the delivery of new features will reduce costs as there is no need to duplicate or add redundant hardware to support various applications.
Transit IT teams can use current mobile internet connectivity and add new experiences to systems, data to devices and analytics to infrastructure. The goal of creating a dynamic sense-and-respond system that lowers costs, increases flexibility, and boosts ridership.
Challenges of increased revenue and ridership
It is safe to say that the transit system transports millions of riders and rely on the subway as their means of travel. However, many people choose the automobile as a faster and more direct means of transportation. The market proliferation generated by the healthier choice of cycling or walking as a more environmentally friendly solution. In comparison to the online retailers who compete for sales based on convenience; transit authorities must compete for riders by delivering a continually better experience at all points of their journeys.
Analytics can deliver a smarter, safer, and smoother experience for the ridership. This can be accomplished by analyzing the information from digital cards at turnstiles, can help authorities gain an understanding of how they can improve their passenger experience — and that better experience can convert into ridership growth.

Applications running over a smart transit network can convert individual stations and vehicles into smart hubs with monitoring, automation, and real-time management, for better service and a better commuter experience — evolving them into true stations of the future.
Transit authorities can become the catalyst for creating connected cities, enabling connectivity and economic growth through the provision of a high-capacity, high-availability, multi-use communications network.
Current Transit Challenges & Objectives
The Transit System installs and maintains thousands of miles of cabling throughout the subway lines to support these new infrastructures and multi-use communication networks. However, cables are prone to human interference, vermin attack as well as wear and tear throughout the tunnels. The need for a cable that can offer protection as well as high standards is a necessity. The transit system needs to install a cable that will minimizes signal loss that may interfere with transportation system.
nanoFIBER Considerations in Plan Development
The subway system’s objective in expansion or reclamation is to utilize the latest technologies from security, data centers, DAS, Wi-Fi, and digital signage. Other key features are the multiple UBS ports and standard power outlet for charging phones, tablets, and laptops on subway platforms. We also consider the subway system objective is to source a fiber optic solution that will meet the needs of smallest outer diameter and can meet all required specifications and external conditions from Riser, Plenum, Indoor/Outdoor, Direct Burial, Industrial and Harsh Environments as well as added water block for underground conduits when necessary. Another consideration is the Norwegian rat population in the subway tunnels and eating through the cables. Lastly, the human element of safety by providing an outer LSZH jacket that is not toxic when burned.
nanoFIBER Armored Fiber Optic Cabling Solutions
The stainless-steel armoring deploys a patent pending coiling technology that wraps around the inner jacket of the fiber optic cable. This protects the bend radius, poor installation practices, as well as handling that can impede the performance and cause signal loss of the fiber optic cable.
Several key factors are considered in developing a cabling solution and management systems for transit subways. Lastly, the Norwegian rats may be the worst of the intruders as they have taste for the cables. They have been menacing subway systems and gnawed through all types of cables for decades causing tremendous damage and interrupting the signal throughout the transit system. The stainless-steel armor is impenetrable to these attacks and has protected fiber optic from signal loss.

The armored fiber cables can be housed as a single strand for transit digital signage to building management systems (BMS) as well as multiple strands of up to 144 strands or more to support all security needs. The nanoFIBER is easy to splice and faster to terminate for custom solutions versus standard AIA. Since the OD is the same as non-armored fiber cable sizes, nanoFIBER is a perfect replacement for all the fiber needs.

Power Over Fiber and Security Protocols

The new plastic design makes the cassette a lighter & easier assembly versus metal cassettes. Easier to assemble in our patent pending distribution trays. The plastic designed cassette modules have higher density and more ports per tray versus metal cassettes. Plus, there is no conductive heat from the plastic cassettes. The sustainable repurposing of plastic from a York County PA factory adds renewal efficiencies to the modular plastic cassettes. 1U Tray and Rack system fits virtually all standard size cabinets, holds up to four 12-fiber cassettes, or six 8-fiber cassettes, is completely made in America with machined hardware and is designed for easy installation. The rear of the rack is designed to allow for easy access to connections. Meanwhile, each of the three cassette trays slide forward and back to help manage connectivity tasks from the front. One rack with three trays of cassettes would help manage and organize up to 144 fiber connectors.
